Exploring Type 4 Themes in Four Films

Picture
3rd Thursday Evenings 6:00-8:00pm Online Pacific
January 15, February 19, March 19, April 16, May 21

Welcome are all types who would like to understand themselves or their 4 friends and family better.

While all types are invited to join this ten-member class, most welcome are the saved seats for at least five Type 4s: This will make the glass at least half full! Those 4s will receive a special discount at registration in support of their added participation in facilitated dialogues and panels during class sessions. After introductions and teaching on our first evening, The 4s will vote on which films/books all members will use for the discussions, with considerations made for diversity, inclusion, and current group interests.  For us 4s: The grass is really greener this time around!

For better or worse, this course is facilitated as objectively as possible by Dale Rhodes (Seasoned Sx 4 with the learned ability to fly happily with both wings).
Literature and Film Options

Hedda Gabler (Play by Henrik Ibsen or) Film
Shadow themes, feminist author ahead of his time, quite a ride

Song of the Lark (Novel by Willa Cather)
Amazing novel on a young woman finding her artistic voice, delightful

Blue Jasmine Film (Woody Allen)
Shadow themes, stellar example of the 3-5 wing tensions, train wreck

Ladybird Film  (Greta Gerwig)
Sweet coming of age girl striving to be unique and finding it in young adulthood, really delightful

*Departures (Okuribito) Film*
Beautiful: Japanese Social/Self-Pres Four themes: depth, beauty, death, grief, life, art, just wow

*Cherry Blossoms Film*
German/Japanese film, similar themes as Departures but with a connection point to Type 1 very clear

Brad’s Status (Directed by Mike White) Film
Cringe-worthy and loveable-noble guy, stellar performance of the inner life and inner minor-key music of a midlife male 4; sp/so

*The Rachel Divide (Documentary)*
Shadow themes in striving to be unique, will bring about many diverse viewpoints

*All of Us Strangers (Film)*
Absolutely gorgeous gay men portrayed in dreamy-like story of loss, grief, ambivalence in connection, returning to the land of the living; 5 wing prominent (highly recommended)

*Past Lives (Film by Celine Song)*
Very moving: Korean/Immigrant experience with lost connections, longing, limited choices (7 harmonic) maybe in one lifetime

*These selections encourage consideration and discussions beyond traditional/dominant culture representations
Self Study at Home
If you choose, you may review a handout posted online that will highlight type themes on each lit/film selection.   You arrange for the chosen book or film yourself; plan to search IMDB.com for options.  Yes, the schedule allows enough time for you to enjoy a book! A bibliography and brief videos are under the Enneawhat? Menu for you to learn more about all the types.

A Short One-to-One Connection
You will be assigned the name and email of one other participant to have a phone/zoom/in-person chat with about the book or film of the month.  Students often report that this is the most meaningful experience of these courses: A one-to-one listening to what each of you have been thinking/feeling/sensing about the material so far; not a performance, just a connection with another person and point-of-view.

Community Together
At the sessions, Dale will provide a short teaching on the type and note relevant themes in the novel or film.  We will have 40 minutes for all who may want to share their own reflections in a listening/reflection session without crosstalk, then we take a 10 minute comfort break, and afterwards move into open lively dialogue for an hour.  This has met the needs of introverts and extroverts for over 10 years, so we stick to it.  Plenty of time for reflections, reactions, questions and deeper delving amongst the participants.  Dale facilitates each small group session, never recorded.
