Antonia is described as headstrong, questioning, opinionated.
VI - She describes how honored the badger is in her country, that dogs would go into their nests and come out cut and scratched. And just after finds a small chirping insect who reminds her of a beggar woman in her hometown who would sing if you gave her food or place to sleep-- moves her to tears. She brings it home in her scarf on her head to her dad, who listens to it.

X - The Shimerda's are ignorant (5) and vulnerable (8) and need help (2)
Chapter XI - Christmas is this sweet home experience with the male workers, which Cather so SWEETLY describes in innocence. Her descriptions of the the men who help with Christmas are SUCH a LOVE OF STRENGTH and INNOCENCE and THE LOVE OF CHILDREN.
Grandfather was judge mental in matters of religion, but after Mr. Shimerda knelt in front of Christmas tree and blessed and thanked the family, he tells Jimmy "the prayers of all good people are good." GRAVITAS
XIII - Short mentioning of after Christmas the two male steer begin fighting (very male, aggressive) and everyone admires Otto poking them apart. It's just a short paragraph that isn't really necessary except interesting to read from Cather her observing STRENGTH and STEER! She mentions that later in a major major major snowstorm they couldn't leave the house to feed the animals, but that these two bulls were probably by now warming each other's backs and laying together!!! VULNERABILITY
XIV - After Mr. Shimerda shoots himself "from homesickness" Jimmy finds himself alone in the house for the first time ever, in the absence of all that adult authority--- and he likes what he finds: authority first, but then goes on to a very spiritual recollection of the soul of Mr. Shimerda--- a FIVE LIKE REVIEWING of his life.
XVII - Antonia is 15 and seen as a strong woman. She was "too proud of her strength"
There is a story of justice where Jake hits Ambrose and has to pay fine for it; vengeance.
XIX - I like be like man. Antonia has Jimmy feel her muscles. She had a flattery way with pans and a heavy step (EIGHTS dont know how much force to use). In a sweet night looking at the stars, Jimmy asks her "why aren't you always nice like this Tony?" Why are you always being tough like Ambrosch?
III - 2nd paragraph: INNOCENCE bear and children ......

VI - her description of winter as "TRUTH". 2 5 8. It was if we were being punished for loving the loveliness of summer, and this was the truth.
Her description of winter made me think that the seasons are the f. I'll range of human, or eight. Truth and lack of color winter, the need for color and warmth is felt in its absence; and the wildness of color and sense in summer....
Lovely hearth description of the Harlings' house.

Antonia and husband 'she the impulse, he the corrective'
Made From Bone - by Mark Nepo
When I can be the truth,
it grows more and more clear
when it is necessary to tell the truth.
That is, when I have access to the place
with me that is lighted, I don't have
to speak heatedly. I can just give away
warmth. When I am still enough to brush
quietly with eternity, I don't have to
speak of God. I can just offer peace
to those around me.
A tree grows so it can convey wind.
It is not the wind. And a person grows
in order to convey spirit.
They say that animals recharge
their innocence each time they hoof
the earth. And we are reborn
each time we touch what matters.

- Type 8 Virtues.....are Truth; Innocence
- Helen Palmer: Innocents walk into new situations without prior ideas or expectations about what they are going to find. They are open to whatever the situation presents, which allows them to naturally accommodate to correct a course of action
- Riso/Hudson: A cat is innocently being a cat whether it is cute and cuddly or stalking its prey: it is innocently being itself. Eights bring this to the world when they know they are part of the natural order, without self-amplification.
- Dale Rhodes: When one of my elder students got to meet a young male 8 trainer as part of her coursework, I asked her what she thought of him. She said: “I liked him. He was like a really big, sweet bear... that you just wouldn’t want to piss off.” And I said: “Yes, that’s it. Both.”
