Patrick and the Persian in the driveway making errors in driving gets him to halt his own suicide: he is useful and then scolds them....
Flashback Childhood: The child Ove finds a wallet and his father tells him it’s his choice: he turns it in... honesty and integrity can be high values for Ones.
His father is a widower who is “too kind” and he wonders in retrospect what man can be “too kind?" His dad is killed while celebrating Ove’s good grades.
You get a sense of his loss: his wife, his friend Rune who has had a stroke and lives across the way but is paralyzed (and he is holding a grudge about), his mother died early, father died when in teens; his job which was his the day his dad died.
Ove attempts to return the overpayment the company made when his dad died: the right thing to do.

(Rather than unlike his father: reaction formation.) A job well done is a reward and it’s own right – his father used to say. On principle: He gets fired bc he won’t tell on a thief, but he meets his wife bc of it. (True Perfection is the unfolding of things you might not have planned— God Grant me the Serenity…. ). Ove liked houses: they gave you what you put into them, they gave you what you deserve. Holds on to his house, on principle. Refuses to give clown money or pay for parking, on principle. When young, Ove wanted to join military for the order and the rules.
