Exploring Type One Idealist Themes

in just 3 Films (or 2 books and 1 film if you like)

Picture
3 Thursday Evenings Online
6:00-8:00pm Pacific: March 12th, April 9th, May 14th

Welcome to all types who would like to understand themselves or their Type 1 Idealist friends and family better.  This is something worth doing, and it can make many people feel oh-so-well-and-good.

While *all types* are invited to join this ten-member class, most welcome are the saved seats for at least five Type 1 Idealist-Reformers who will receive a slight discount at registration in support of their added participation in facilitated dialogues during class sessions.

For better or worse, this course is facilitated as objectively as possible by Dale Rhodes 4, who has a strong direct connection to Type 1 and plenty of experience with Type 1 Idealist-Reformers in his professional life and in his personal life by choice!  A Type 1 colleague or buddy is like no other!

First Session: Introductions, Teaching on the Type, Exploring the First Book or Film
Loosen any pre-judgements and come prepared on the first night having (read the 1989 novel by Kazuo Ishiguro and/or) viewed the film Remains of the Day, a creative masterpiece of universal psychology and history, applicable to us all today. This can be found in book/audio/video via your library and streaming services easily. This story is a creative way to best begin exploring the influential Type One defense mechanisms: Reaction Formation (Type 1), Repression (Wing 2) and Narcotization (Wing 9).

Second Session:  Heroine, Character Development in a Film
Come prepared having watched the film and reviewed Dale's notes on Martha (Netflix 2024 Documentary). Exploring Idealism, Integrity, Improvement, Avoidance of Pleasure, Discernment, Positive Effects and Being Useful; Shadow themes are present too.

Third Session: Hero, Character Development in a Book or Film
Come prepared having watched the film and reviewed Dale's notes on A Man Called Ove. Read the  delightful short novel by Fredrik Backman (2012) or watch the Swedish Film with English Subtitles (2015).

Exploring Idealism, Integrity, Improvement, Avoidance of Pleasure, Discernment, Positive Effects and Being Useful; Shadow themes are present too.

Self Study at Home
If you choose, you may review a handout posted online that will highlight type themes on each lit/film selection.   You arrange for the chosen book or film yourself; plan to search library and IMDB.com for options.  Yes, the schedule allows enough time for you to enjoy a book, but films present the content beautifully too! A bibliography and brief videos are under the Enneawhat? Menu for you to learn more about all the types.  The One presentations are especially entertaining, btw!

Community Together
At the first session, we will have short introductions and an overview of what to expect ahead. Dale will provide a comprehensive overview of Type One Idealists: Core Values, Habits of Attention, Wings/Connecting Points, Gifts/Challenges, Harmonics, Instinctual Preferences, etc. with plenty of time for your questions.  All of this will contribute to discussions in the next two sessions where you will explore relevant themes in the novel or film.  On those nights we say hello for 10 minutes, have 40 minutes for all who may want to share their own reflections in a listening/reflection session without crosstalk; then we take a 10 minute comfort break, and afterwards move into open lively dialogue for an hour.  This has met the needs of introverts and extroverts for over 10 years in these programs, so we stick to it.  Plenty of time for reflections, reactions, questions and deeper delving amongst the participants.  Dale facilitates each small group session, never recorded.
