Shawn EllisonShawn Ellison is a Christian contemplative, narrative enneagram practitioner, certified integral coach, and registered nurse. He is a Philadelphia native, but has lived in the San Francisco Bay Area for the last 8 years with his wife, Carmelle. He is passionate about spiritual transformation, human development, and the enneagram. One of his core focuses is helping men discover their deepest, true self through direct contact with inner presence and stillness. By unveiling and abiding in the true self, infinite possibilities emerge for discerning what is authentically ours to do as enlightened men in the world. |
Dale RhodesDale Rhodes, M.S., M.A. is a professional mentor and guide with a private practice focusing on The Enneagram since 1998. For over 20 years, Enneagram Portland has facilitated interdisciplinary experiences for a vibrant community of people exploring The Nine Points of View together. Dale lives with Peter (his partner for 19 years) and their rescue cat Oatis. Taoism is the path he prefers over all, although he draws from many wisdom traditions. His recently popular courses for men to learn about their best selves through literature, film and the types bring him and his ongoing students great joy. Getting more men involved in doing depth work together is his passion. |
Matt AhrensMatt has been using the Enneagram personally and professionally for over twenty years. He is a graduate of the California Institute of Integral Studies’ Integral Counseling Psychology program and is a California licensed psychotherapist working with individuals and couples. He also offers Enneagram coaching, consulting, and training to individual and organization clients worldwide, specializing in using the Enneagram to promote Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Matt holds the Enneagram as a sacred map we can all use to guide us on our individual psychological & spiritual growth journey. Originally from the midwest, Matt lives in the San Francisco Bay area. |
The 9 Types of Men and Modern Masculinity
All Sessions: 9:30a-1:00p Pacific; 10:30a-2:00p Mountain; 11:30a-3:00p Central; 12:30p-4:00p Eastern
$65 per session, discounted if friends register together for entire series.
Explore and experience how all types of men have unique ways of being that we can all employ to be our own best man and to be more fully hu-man and alive. Expand your community of friends who talk type, character development, men and modern masculinity.
This is our second interactive series on the experiences we have as boys and opportunities we have as men, using the Enneagram as our guide. The Enneagram describes that we have different and preferred ways of thinking, feeling and behaving; it is a map to universal inner and outer territories. While we often gravitate to certain regions, we visit them all daily throughout our lives, so every discussion you engage in during this program applies to you. This year we focus on the wisdom available when we pay attention to our preferences amongst our instinctual drives, our defensive structures and mechanisms, and our development towards consciousness and higher states of being. Likely there will be plenty of new content for everyone here; to include self-reflection, teachings, participant panel discussions, small group explorations and more.
- March 11th/ Aligning With and Balancing Our Instincts (lead, Dale Rhodes)
- April 8th/ Addressing and Relaxing Our Defenses (lead, Matt Ahrens)
- May 13th/ Spiritual Growth through the Vice to Virtue Conversion (lead, Shawn Ellison)

No preparation is needed. Most men who have registered for our programs are familiar with their own type and with the general concepts in the system. The "EnneaWhat?" menu tab above may be of interest and fun for you if you are new or even if you are experienced. If you want to take an assessment online to learn your own type, use the one we trust and click here. We recommend only the resources supported on this website and in the bibliography. Meanwhile, plan on solid presentations and facilitated discussions exploring all our ways of being men. Bring a friend, brother, son or partner with you.
- Registration for these workshops is limited to only 25-30 participants. $65 each session, discounted for a friend.
- We seek, welcome and encourage age 18+ Men from All Walks of Life and Time Zones.

I enjoyed the use of the enneagram as a reference and expanding my knowledge of it to gain a vocab and insights and all that... but being in the group of men and getting to know them over time was also enjoyable. The more exposure I had to them while looking through the lens of the enneagram I had a better sense of who they really were and could connect deeper after just having met them. (Jack, 9)
I appreciated the broad overview of the Enneagram types and the opportunity to hear everyone's personal experience and how it related to his type. Since the concepts were relatively new to me, it was a good primer. I also felt the teaching team created a courageous space for participants to stretch themselves and practice vulnerability. (Glenn, 7)
Seeing all the different faces and being surprised when those individuals spoke with self-reflection, with ideas for their future work, and a respect for others in the group. It also taught me that my assumptions and profiling can be more inaccurate than I thought and reinforces my work in trusting that my scanning of the environment as a SelfPres Type Six is not always accurate, and that inaccuracy applies to more areas than I may think. (Kirk, 6)
I enjoyed most: “Being" with like minded Men who are open to deep personal growth work; and finding myself in a relational community of men that created positive energy, space for psychological safety, vulnerability which created openness, trust, respect, courage, non-judgement, empathy, willingness to show up and be seen despite uncertain outcomes. To listen and acknowledge the rich, power of "Story" from each man, including of myself. (Will, 2)
